AES-425 Protective Coating

 Description:

AES-425 is an 80 % solid polyamide epoxy resin coating formulated for continuous submersion underwater. It was formulated for resurfacing and waterproofing pools, fountains and tanks.

 Resistance:

AES-425 is resistant to acids, solvents, caustics, hydrocarbons, and freshwater. It was developed to withstand corrosive and abrasive conditions with excellent outdoor durability.

 Application Areas:

AES-425 is a self priming protective epoxy coating designed for adhering to almost any clean surface including, concrete, masonry, plaster, cinder block, stone, and metal. AES-425 is used in commercial and industrial surroundings.

 Preparation:

Surfaces should be free of rust, mill scale, oil, paint, films, grease, soluble salts, and other contaminants.  Sand blasting to white metal is necessary in some cases.

Concrete should be etched to provide a profile for optimal adhesion. Latinate and other loosely bound materials should be removed to provide a solid bonding surface.  The preparation procedures above are general guidelines. The preparation procedures above are general guidelines. Detailed preparation methods are available through SSPC at www.sspc.org or 412-281-2331 or NACE at www.nace.org or 281-228-6200.

 Mixing:

The mixing of parts A & B is very important!  AES-425 has a (1:1) mixing ratio of 1 parts “B” to 1 part “A”. Agitate Part B separately before combining the two parts. Pour a measured amount of Part B into a clean container large enough to hold both components. Add an equal volume of Part A to Part B then continue agitation until the two components are thoroughly mixed for at least one minute per gallon. Allow idle activation for at least 10 minutes.

 Thinner:

Thin with Lacquer Thinner or Xylene for air spray applications, thin up to 3/4 pint per gallon. For airless spray, roller or brush, thin up to 1/4 pint per gallon. Do not add thinner until after activation is completed.

 Application:

Brush, 3/8” nap roller cover, or airless spray equipment may be used to apply AES-425.  Surface configuration, weather, or area surroundings will dictate application method.

DRY FILM APPLICATION

To get dry film of:           Apply Sq.Ft./gal

 6 mils                            200 sq. ft.

12 mils                          100 sq. ft.

DO NOT apply product heavier than 12 wet mils per coat. For a heavier dry film, apply necessary number of coats. Use of thinner increases possibility of sag and reduces dry film thickness.

 General:

AES-425 should be applied in well-ventilated areas.  Surfaces should be free of foreign matter.  DO NOT apply product near an open flame.

 Clean Up:

Application equipment should be cleaned immediately with Lacquer Thinner.  Use White Vinegar to clean hands and skin.  Do not allow AES-425 to remain on tools!  Once it sets and is cured, it is difficult to remove.

Flammability: Flammable during application will not support combustion when cured.

 Curing Time:

Pot Life:                     1.5 hrs @ 80ºF

Drying Time:              4 hrs @ 80ºF

Total Cure:                 7 days @ 80ºF
