AES-150 is a waterborne, non-toxic, non - flammable, elastomeric coating. Spray applied with two components mixing outside the spray gun, with instant activation at the application surface. Both components applied at ambient air temperature (no heat and no offensive odors). It can be applied over virtually any substrate, including metal or concrete.
Application Areas:
Apply over properly prepared metal, concrete, or other surfaces, as recommended. See AES specifications for detailed prep requirements. However this product is not recommended for areas subjected to strong solvent or light end hydrocarbon exposures; or over coal tar pitch, unless properly sealed; or directly over EPS board.
Preparation:
Application surface should be clean, dry and structurally sound, free of sharp edges, loose or foreign material, dirt, oil or grease or other materials, which might damage AES 150. On approved insulation and recovery board - mechanically fasten to substrate in accordance with applicable manufacturer's specifications and local codes. Fill large irregularities with AES Trowel Grade. Seal joints with AES Trowel Grade, reinforcing with mesh, as appropriate; or tape joints with three (3) inch butyl tape. On metal - remove all oil, grease and loose rust, dirt or other foreign material from the surface to be coated. Water wash surface, if necessary, to remove any remaining dust or contamination and allow it to dry. On concrete - on new construction, it is preferable to wait at least 30 days before application. Application may proceed within 3 - 5 days following pour, but some blistering may occur. Blisters will disappear within a few days, without detriment to the coating, as moisture or gas is absorbed into the substrate. Determine whether curing or parting compounds or hardeners were used. Non - oil based compounds are generally compatible with AES 150. Power wash surface to remove residual curing or parting compounds, hardeners, laitance and, in the case of older surfaces, mildew, loose or flaking paint or other foreign matter. In the case of extreme spalling or other significant irregularities, such as cracks, voids or bug holes, fill and smooth. In the case of lightweight concrete, a primer may be required. Allow substrate to dry until free of surface moisture and, if possible, retained moisture. Blow or vacuum off sand and dust prior to application.
Mixing:
The mixing of parts A & B is very important! AES 150 Part A should be agitated at low rpm's prior to and throughout the application. AES Part B should be agitated prior to commencement of application.
POT LIFE: Not a concern. AES A and B mix only outside the spray gun at the time of application.
Application:
AES 150 is applied using a specially designed high volume, low-pressure system consisting of two gear driven diaphragm pumps driven by either a 6.5 hp gas motor or a 110-volt electric motor. The motors are readily interchangeable, depending on job requirements. This system will run two spray guns simultaneously and is capable of delivering 5.2 gpm at 435 psi. High-pressure air, gas or electric driven displacement-pumping systems are also available. No pre - mixing, pressure pots or other equipment is required. AES-150 may be re-coated or top-coated at any time following the expiration of the above time periods. Surface should be water washed, clean of foreign matter and as dry as possible prior to recoating or top coating.
Dry Film Application Rate:
Can be applied in one coat at almost any desired thickness.
60-120 mils recommended for most roofing applications.
For other applications, see AES specifications.
General:
Both AES components are water based so no unpleasant fumes are produced during application. However, particle masks should be worn while spraying. Protective clothing and footwear, such as Tyvek coveralls, should be worn to protect clothing. Skin cream or Vaseline to can be used to clean skin that has come in contact with AES-150.
Clean Up:
The internals of the application equipment, including the pump, gun and hose internals, should be thoroughly cleaned at the end of every shift. Mineral spirits are recommended for AES Part A; water for AES Part B. Cleaning is a relatively simple procedure.
